Day 32: Today: New wrist splints and visit with high risk neonatologist

Today, Analise received her new splints that fit her much better than the previous ones, keeping her wrists in a neutral position and holding her thumbs extended.  Erik and Dawn continue with the exercises, at least every 6 hours.

Analise also saw the high risk neonatologist today, who will become her new primary doctor.  This doctor will coordinate her care, as well as see her on a regular basis for immunizations, follow up , etc.  She will also have a back-up pediatrician who will see her, if the neonatologist is not available, for general care.

The doctors at Kaiser are still trying to coordinate Analise's therapy, and are trying to decide where she will receive therapy.  Most likely it will be in Riverside.

The co-pays are adding up, at $20 a visit, but Erik and Dawn were told today that Kaiser may be able to waive the co-pays since Analise's condition will be long term and will require many doctor/therapy/treatment visits.

We are praying they will qualify for this benefit, knowing that they will be frequent flyers at Kaiser!! Just fyi, since many of you have asked:  At this time, Erik and Dawn are unable to change medical insurance through their work, since the "open enrollment" period has ended.

One of my fellow school nurses (thank you Kirsten) recommended we call Philadelphia Shriners and ask them  all our questions. We did so this morning and also left a message for Dr. van Bosse, the lower extremity specialist in the video a few posts back, asking if he had any recommendations of doctors for Analise at the Los Angeles Shriners.  Debbie in Philadelphia said she will get back to us next week.  Debbie also told us that Analise can treat concurrently at both Shriners Hospitals, since she has already been accepted at the Los Angeles Shriners Hospital.  They will also be scheduling a back up appointment for Analise with Dr. van Bosse and the hand specialist in Philadelphia, which probably won't be scheduled until one or two months, should Erik and Dawn decide to take Analise there for an additional opinion.  We could always cancel that appointment should Erik and Dawn be satisfied with the treatment at the Los Angeles Shriners, but at least we will have the appointment reserved and won't have to wait again.

We are thankful that if you are reading this tonight, you are not a victim of the power outages affecting Southern California tonight.  We guess you would not be able to read this if you were, unless you are reading it on your phone  ;-)
Day 32-Another day full of doctor's appointments...I'm pooped,
and I am sure Mommy and Daddy are too!!

  1. I was one of those 'Blackout' victims.... here, in La Quinta, it lasted 6 hours! Not too bad. At any rate, on to a more important subject, Sweet Analise..... I continue to keep her in my daily prayers. She is so beautiful, I love looking at her pictures!
