Day 9-Surgery is scheduled for Thursday, August 18 at 1pm

Surgery to reattach the colon is scheduled for Thursday, August 18 at 1pm.  The surgeon, Dr. Roman Sydorak, told Erik and Dawn that a second surgery can be done  up to 2 weeks after the initial surgery, otherwise then it is best to wait until after the body begins to heal itself, which happens 6-8 weeks after the initial surgery.  Dr. Sydorak stated that they won't know exactly what procedure they will be doing until they are able to see the colon. The desired outcome of the surgery is to reconnect the ascending colon to the transverse colon.  LET'S PRAY THAT GOD MAKES THIS POSSIBLE!!  If the ascending colon has not reduced in size enough, they may have to remove a small portion of the colon that is not vital, to allow for the reconnection to fit properly.

Our Sweet Analise enjoyed so much being off all the IV's and tubes for the past couple of days.  However, following the surgery she will need to be reconnected for probably 3-5 days, until they know the surgery was successful.

Erik and Dawn did more of the massaging exercises today and splints were placed on Sweet Analise's wrists. Still no orthopedic evaluation.

Erik and Dawn needed to take care of some business at home and had to go home this afternoon for a short while.  Dawn's mother and Step-father (Annette and John), her brothers and wives (Jim and Raeanne, Paul and Melissa), and her sister and husband (Victoria and Andrew) prepared dinner for Erik and Dawn and had a little family time at Erik and Dawn's house, before Erik and Dawn headed back to the hospital after dinner.  Kaley, Kyle, and Kassandra were able to join them.
